Our Facility
Welcome!
The Ohio State University Department of African American and African Studies Community Extension Center, established in 1972, is a single story brick building of about 7,000 square feet, located at the southeast corner of Monroe Avenue and Mount Vernon Avenue. The Ohio General Assembly in 1981 allocated state capital improvements funds to acquire a building for the Community Extension Center. The new facility was constructed by Charles E. Wallace and Company. The Center offers credit and non credit courses, research programs, workshops, meetings, conferences, and services designed to foster greater interaction between the community and the University.
Air conditioned classrooms and teaching space include a multipurpose room that can be divided to accommodate two classes/meetings or workshops. A computer lab, rooms for the administrative staff, a kitchenette with sinks, microwave and refrigerator, spacious hallways, and a reception area complement the interior of the building.
The building is energy efficient with insulation in the foundation, walls, and ceiling; double-paned windows; entry vestibules; and zoned heating system. Provisions for the physically disabled include no steps at the main entrance, automatic entry doors, appropriate room clearances, and two spaces for Handicapped Parking. Parking is available on the building site and off street parking is provided for 42 cars.
