Course OfferingsThe Community Extension Center’s computer classroom is a teaching and training resource for individuals, classes and groups that use our facility. The classroom is equipped with 8 networked workstations that contain Microsoft Office Suite software and high speed internet access.
Technology Courses
Free and reduced-cost, computer applications courses are offered quarterly by Community Extension Center staff. Course instruction includes:- Special classes geared toward senior citizens scheduled during the day
- Courses for adults are available during the evening.
- Introduction to the personal computer, internet and e-mail, and desktop publishing
- Additional courses in introduction and intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Small class sizes
- Special topics for groups
Spring 2008 Technology Courses
FREE Computer Orientation for Seniors
Senior Computer Orientation (SCO-303, 305) - Senior Computer Orientation is a free training program designed to introduce adults aged 55 and older to a variety of computer topics. A total of 16 hours of computer instruction are devoted to these topics: hardware, operating systems, terminology and word processing. FREEAdditional Courses for Seniors (ages 55 and up)
Students who register for any of the following classes should have completed the Senior Computer Orientation course or have experience working in a Windows environment. Excluding the Introduction to the Internet course, the fee for each individual course is $20.00 per person. Payment in the form of check or money order (payable to OSU) is due at the start of the class session.Introduction to the Internet (NET-302, 308) Students will learn how to connect to the Internet and navigate their way around the World Wide Web. The basics of search engines and browsers will be explained. FREE
Introduction to Microsoft Excel (EXC 306) Students will learn to create professional spreadsheets using tool menus, toolbars and basic skills to create, open, and save Excel worksheets -- entering values into a worksheet and selecting cell ranges, calculating value totals with Autosum and entering formulas using Autofill. FEE: $20.00
Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT 307) Students will gain an understanding of the PowerPoint windows, toolbars, menus and commands needed to develop and manage powerful slide presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint. Students will learn how to format slides, create templates, presentation notes and handouts and run a slide presentation on a computer. FEE: $20.00
Evening Course (Open to all ages)
Introduction to Desktop Publishing (DTP-304) Students will learn how to create colorful brochures, personalized greeting cards, postcards and newsletters with ease using Microsoft Publisher 2003. Students will enjoy working with word art pictures, templates and more using their own creativity. FEE: $20.00Registration
