Join Us for the Public Art Initiative Open House!

The African American and African Studies Community Extension Center (CEC) is excited to announce the launch of its Public Art Initiative, a new program designed to showcase artworks that reflect storytelling, cultural reflection, future gazing, Black Studies, and Afrofuturism.
To introduce the initiative, the CEC will host an Open House at its Near East Side location, 905 Mount Vernon Avenue, Columbus, OH 43203, on September 16th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.
The Open House is free and open to the public, inviting artists, community members, and partners to:
- Learn more about the two-phase submission process
- Meet CEC staff and community partners
- Tour the CEC exhibition space
- Ask questions and connect with fellow artists
The Public Art Initiative will accept proposals in any medium and style, encouraging artists to submit works that reflect the diverse experiences of historically African American communities and envision new futures. Selected artworks will be installed at the CEC beginning in Summer 2026 and remain on display for up to three years.
Artists interested in applying should attend the Open House or visit the CEC website to review submission guidelines and deadlines.
